Create Your Dream Bedroom
Sure, you may have it set in your mind that you want to design your dream bedroom but what does that really mean to you? Do you have an idea in your mind or do you have more like 100 ideas that all need to somehow go together? A lot of thought should go into this project. After all, this is your area, your sanctuary and your place to escape so it should be all about you!
This really isn’t a project that you can go into with no plan and just see how things turn out. If it’s going to be perfect and fulfill your needs and wants, you will need a plan. Think about what you enjoy doing in your space. Is your bedroom simply a place where you go and sleep or do you enjoy reading or watching television in there? If you had a sofa or an extra large bean bag, would you use it? Do you need a vanity area to get ready in the morning rather than fighting with everyone else over the bathroom? How is your storage situation? If you don’t have enough closet space, perhaps extra shelving could be created.
When you make your list of needs and wants, you also have to be realistic and consider your space and budget as well. There are online tools that you can use to help you create your plan or a sketch pad and pencil will do the same job. Be sure to consider doors, windows, beams and anything else that cannot be moved unless you’re planning a full remodel.
Furniture
Positioning your bed properly can allow you to sleep better, be healthier and attract prosperity and love. The head of your bed always needs to be at a wall but never under a window or a beam and it should not line directly up with the door. It’s easiest to position your bed first and then everything else will fall into place.
Dresser, chests, desks and chairs should be placed in a way that balances a room. You should never have several tall items on one wall and then nothing on another and don’t be afraid to make use of corners with a corner desk, table, gel fireplace or simply turn your dresser on an angle.
Flooring and Lighting
Flooring is basically about personal preference. Wood floors and laminates have become increasingly popular for the bedroom and many can be done with underfloor heating. If you have carpet, don’t be afraid to roll out another large area rug on top so there is contrast around the perimeter and a lot of extra cushion.
Lighting should not be an after thought. Quite often, lighting is a centerpiece that can inspire a room. Make use of lamps or put your main light on a dimmer to achieve balance. You want your room bright in the morning but relaxing in the evening.
The Overall Look
When adding bedding, curtains, wall decor, etc., this should be a reflection of your personality. From fun to contemporary to vintage to romantic, the possibilities are endless. Spend a little time shopping online to get an idea of what’s available before you personalize your space.
